4:09 Spaghetti Tower STEM Challenge
To ease back as we begin 2022, each class worked as small teams to practice their creative engineering and design skills by trying to be the team to create the tallest spaghetti tower. A 6th grade team from Room 103 created the tallest at just over 30". This activity is a perfect way to reestablish classroom collaboration and strengthen our community after the long winter break!

This week in PE we started our soccer unit. We started off with practicing our dribbling skills. Along with going over some basic dribbling drills, we incorporate some games to help improve our dribbling skills as well. Here the 3rd Grade class is playing Bumper Ball.

9:57 Music and Emotion: 6th and 2nd grade collaboration!
Decatur partnered with the CSO this year to create an arts integrated unit based on music, art, and emotion. Ms. Koreman and Ms. Schmittle worked with 2nd and 6th grade students to create this project. COMING SOON will be a page on our website dedicated to ALL the incredible projects. 6th grade students are currently working to curate this page. Way to go Decatur students!

2:21 Makerspace: Feb. 24-28
This week, 1st graders explored a several stations in their "Light and Sound" unit: Ss rotated between using a stethoscope to hear their heart beat and experimenting with both metal water bottles and plastic bins with rubber bands to determine how different ways that they could make sound.

2nd graders have begun their new unit on "Properties of Matter". Students have begun to analyze 'color' and 'texture' and will be spending time analyzing these in monster trucks in class! 6th Graders in Rm. 107 did extremely well in their concluding their robot unit. Shoutout to Group A who respectfully debated about the fairness of the constraints and penalties while their robots were going through the collection zone! It was a bittersweet moment for Rm. 107 to say goodbye to their robot chassis'! JMS students also celebrated their February incentive with creating stop-motion videos
