5th Grade Nonfiction Articles Gallery Walk
In preparation for our next novel, Amal Unbound, 5th grade students read various nonfiction articles about Pakistan history & culture. Students then worked in partners to create informational posters for our class gallery walk to teach each other about what they learned. Students then were able to write down questions or comments that they had based on the posters.

Global School Play Day in Makerspace!
On February 5, Decatur celebrated "Global School Play Day" in grades K-3; a day where students take a break from traditional classwork to use their imagination and creativity. Students in 2nd grade, were inspired to build the tallest cup tower they could. The amount of energy in the room and teamwork that was used to create the tower was amazing and inspiring to see. Students didn't quite make it to the April 2019 Guinness World record for the largest plastic cup pyramid set in Mexico City, which used 73, 810 cups but they did a fantastic job! How tall of a pyramid can you build?

Day of Play in Dance Class!

Our first graders enjoyed a day of play in dance class yesterday! We had a TON of creative fun using squishy balls, ribbons, stuffies, yoga mats, books, spot dots, rainsticks, mindfulness cards, and scarves!

January in Makerspace
It's been a busy time in Makerspace in January! 4th graders have presented their coding obstacle courses, created coding programs using Codeverse's Kidscript program and are now moving onto block coding in Scratch. 6th Grade (Rm. 109) are nearly done building their robot chassis and will be soon testing out how many hazardrous waste blocks their robot an remove in 2 min. 6th Grade (Rm. 107) and 5th Grade have finished their video projects - showing younger students how to use Google Classroom and how to use iPads respectfully. K-2 classes have presented their Padlet presentations on making their index card tower and are starting their new units from Project Lead the Way.
