Talk-A-Mile-A-Minute
Check out this video of our amazing 6th graders participating in a fun interactive learning game called "Talk-A-Mile-A-Minute", which reinforces academic vocabulary development in Science class in order to lay a solid foundation for much higher text complexity and scientific writing later in high school and college. Week 12: November 15 - 19
This week's slideshow includes: 6th graders sharing out their new knowledge by adding to the "Learned" section of our KWL of on our Class Driving Questions Board; 6th graders sharing their conceptual understanding of the "Causes of Climate" up in front of our class; 8th graders creating their own flip-books to synthesize their understanding of a recent genetics study portrayed through a documentary film called, "The Human Family Tree", which explored how DNA samples taken from random people in a genealogy study in one of the most ethnically diverse locations of our world, the New York borough of Queens, reveals that all humans share 99.9% of DNA and that "Race" does not exist from a biological perspective; and 6th grade students gearing up for a fun interactive academic vocabulary and community-building activity known as "Talk-A-Mile-A-Minute". Week 11: Monday November, 8th - Wednesday, November 10th
This shortened week's slideshow includes: 7th grade class working cooperatively to set up an experiment to test carbon dioxide absorption and oxygen release by from samples of plants taken from our aquatic ecosystem set up in our lab; 6th graders checking out some of the new STEM books and magazines that were donated to our classroom (thank you parents and students who donated to our classroom!); 6th grades eager to share their ideas during a whole class discussion; our Decatur First Lego League after school teams gearing up for competition by constructing and programming their robots; and some close up pics of our class baby turtle! 6th Grade Shootout in the Quarterfinals
The 6th Graders are currently in their soccer unit and the quarterfinal game came down to a shootout, with the winner moving onto the semifinals.

Drums, Xylophones, Percussion OH MY!
From body percussion, drumming, xylophones and more our students have been creating and performing music with each other this fall. We are composers, musicians, and performers and we can express ourselves through music.
