Ms. Cami's bio

Dear Decatur Community,

I will be the Resident Principal at Decatur this year! In my new role, I will be shadowing Ms. Negron and working closely with the school community to support your school-wide goals. I am excited and honored to have the opportunity to gain valuable knowledge from the Decatur community. My educational values aligned with Decatur’s beliefs of having a high quality education in an environment that is caring and compassionate. This is why I know that with your support I will become a stronger leader.

I have been working in Chicago Public Schools for over 15 years. Prior to coming to Decatur I served as an Instructional Coach and MTSS Lead for 2 years. Throughout my educational journey, I have participated in many leadership roles including Network level opportunities. During my years as a teacher leader, I developed initiatives and  implemented new programs that focused on developing the whole child. As a subject matter expert in dual language, I have had the privilege of teaching in Latin America and worked with teacher leaders equipping them with the necessary tools to deliver high quality instruction and learned the importance of children being prepared for global experiences.

I am currently working on my doctoral degree for Urban Education Leadership. I hold a Master of Arts in Formation of Children and Families, a Bachelors in Elementary Education and Spanish and an Endorsement in English as a Second Language and Bilingual Education.

A little bit about me is that I am also happily married for 20 years to my supportive husband Jonatan and a mother of three beautiful CPS students: Josiah (17), Elisabeth (15), and David (10).  I enjoy reading, spending time with my family, volunteering in my community and eating vegan food.
