August Updates

The first week of school is in the books! 

 

We spent the week focusing on routines and classroom structures. Both classes reviewed the Decatur Values. What does it mean to Be Present, Endure Challenges and Look Out for Others. 

3rd graders also focused on a different norm each day. How we share supplies, move in the hallway, use technology and treat the library. I am so pleased with how well the students take care of the classroom and each other already. 

 

This week we will begin our curriculum. Our strategy this week is to recognize that Reading is Thinking. We will also begin unit 1 in Social Studies and Narrative writing. 

 

This week will also be Safety Week. We will have an allergy lesson, fire drill, inclement weather drill, shelter in place drill and bus evacuation drills so we are ready for field trips. 

 

I am feeling so excited for this school year and can't wait to get to know the kids better!
