Dear Decatur Community,
On behalf of the LSC, I am excited to announce we concluded the Principal selection process and offered Marisol Negron the position (and she accepted). Ms. Negron has over two decades in education and has held positions at many levels, including 18 years in the classroom. We are fortunate to have someone with her experience, talent, drive, energy, compassion and firsthand knowledge of our culture and values as Decatur’s next leader.
The following is an excerpt from Ms. Negron’s resume cover letter submitted during the process.
As the new principal of Decatur it will be essential to provide our students, staff, and families with a smooth transition of leadership. I endeavor to maintain the healthy and robust learning environment to which our students have grown accustomed. As the current AP of our school I am familiar with our systems and structures and will continue the work Yolanda has started by collectively leading our school to its next level of excellence.
My priorities in leading Decatur include the following:
- Building the professional capacity of teachers with a student-centered focus
- Continuing to foster a strong school climate and culture
- Prioritizing social-emotional learning through Restorative Practices and Equity work
- Advocating for parental engagement & community advocacy
We consider ourselves fortunate to have found Ms. Negron. The school will be scheduling virtual opportunities for her to visit with the community so we can get to know her better.
She begins her new journey, December 1st 2020.
Congratulations Ms. Negron!
Dan Duggan
