Play
CPS offers complimentary gold memberships for ChessKid.com, a website where kids can play games against the computer and other kids, participate in tournaments and learn from recorded lessons. To get an account (or to upgrade an existing account to gold), please fill out this permission slip and email it to Chess Parent Seth Zurer [email protected].
Starting 10/12, Mondays from 3:15pm – 4:15pm will be our regularly scheduled play times. Kids are encouraged to log in to ChessKid.com at this time to play with other Decatur students.
Learn
New to chess? Coach Seth will offer a series of six free beginner chess lessons via Google Meet and ChessKid.com starting Tuesday October 13 at 3pm. Lessons will consist of 20 minutes of direct instruction on the basics of chess followed by an opportunity to play with other Decatur kids on ChessKid.com.
Kids with more chess experience may want to join the fall session of online lessons offered by Chess-Ed. Chess-Ed will offer group lessons (via lichess.org and Zoom) open to continuing and advanced Decatur kids only on Tuesdays at 4pm starting 10/13. Register before 10/16 and these lessons will cost $72 / student for the set of six lessons; register after 10/16 and the session will cost $82.

Compete
CPS offers weekly online Blitz tournaments on Thursdays at 4pm as well as a regular season of tournaments via ChessKid.com for students to compete against other CPS players. To participate, you must have a ChessKid.com account and be a part of the Decatur Chess group. As additional competition opportunities become available, we’ll communicate them to chess parents.
The chess team is not an officially sponsored Decatur program.
