PBC Update for the Decatur Community

Dear Decatur Community:

In early October, I shared that the construction plan for our expansion required approval from the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (IEPA). I am happy to report that the IEPA reviewed our plans and approved the Public Building Commission’s (PBC) plan for construction. Crews will begin work on November 18th, 2019, and the annex portion of the project is anticipated to be complete by August 2020.

As part of the IEPA’s approval, the Board of Education is required to share the attached letter with all community members. This letter addresses the site remediation plan, which will be enforced and monitored by the IEPA. If you have questions regarding the remediation plan, we invite you to attend a meeting hosted by the PBC on Thursday, November 14th at 3:30 pm in the MPR. At this meeting, we will only be discussing the remediation plan — not school-level impacts, such as how construction will impact your child’s schedule. I will share more school-related information in the coming weeks as I continue to receive new details. In the meantime, please direct any general questions about the construction project to me directly at [email protected].

This expansion is important to our entire community, and I am so thrilled that construction will begin next week.  For families who cannot attend Thursday’s meeting, I will share the information via my newsletter and at the upcoming ‘Coffee with the Principal’ event. Thank you again for your ongoing support.

Have a wonderful week!
