5th Grade Humanities

The 5th grade kicked off the new year making connections between our novel study and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s work.  Students focused largely on Dr. King’s work fighting for voting rights throughout the 1950s and 1960s.  Students engaged in a gallery walk that allowed them to discuss photographs of the marches and the challenges protesters faced. Students also restarted work on novel projects and I’m excited to see final projects.  Students have previewed some wonderful work and shown great detail thus far!

6th Grade Humanities

Welcome back 6th graders!  The 6th graders began 2018 making connections with the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, Dr. Martin Luther King’s work, and their novel study.  Students have focused on how global human rights movements have helped inform our understanding of the Civil Rights Movement in the United States.  Students reviewed the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and began integrating their newfound knowledge into their novel projects about the human spirit.

For All Grades

Middle of the year MAP testing will commence next week in your child’s reading and math class.  This test will help us gauge your child’s progress towards their spring goal.   Please continue to remind your child to take their time while taking their reading and math MAP test.

Each year school are required to teach sexual health education to students in K-8th. Typically this happens towards the end of the year. Schools are required to notify parents about the curriculum, so please read this letter and let me know in writing if you would like to opt your child out of the curriculum.

Don’t forget to check out your child’s Essentials teachers’ weekly updates!

Here is a FAQ sheet for you about Google Classroom and assignment due dates for all subjects.

Please remember to email your homeroom teacher and Mr. Murray regarding any bus/schedule changes to your child’s regular dismissal schedule.
