Week of December 11, 2017

Here is some information about our week.

Reading: Students worked on closed reading, finding information in a text, and summarizing. They have also continued to work on discussing and annotating “A Wrinkle in Time”.
Math: Students continued working on division. They learned how to check their answers using multiplication. We reviewed some of the concepts today and will continue to review Monday and Tuesday. Students will take a chapter test on Wednesday. Please visit thinkcentral.com for extra practice. Please let me know if you do not know how to access that website. Khanacademy.org is also a great resource.
Social Studies: Students learned about early English settlements. They will take a chapter test next Friday.

SEL: Students are continuing their lessons on Mindfulness.

Discussion Questions:

  1. How can you divide 576/ 4? How can you check your work?
  2. Why is summarizing an important reading skill?

School News:

  1. Your child is bringing home an Emergency Parent/Guardian Contact Verification Form. As a safety measure for your child, every school must have information that can be used to contact you. Make any necessary changes or additions using this form and return it to your child’s teacher.

  1. This information was sent in our Principal’s Newsletter this week.  If you are not received these updates, please email Ms. Regalado.

Each year school are required to teach sexual health education to students in K-8th. Typically this happens towards the end of the year. Schools are required to notify parents about the curriculum, so please read this letter and let me know in writing if you would like to opt your child out of the curriculum. Teachers and I will continue to send reminders and timelines closer to the spring start date.
If you have specific questions regarding the content or how your teacher will present the information, please contact your classroom teacher.
Thank you,

  1. Your child brought home an information sheet about the Arts at Decatur.
  2. If you would like a CPS calendar, please let me know and I will send one home with your child.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Mrs. Coleman
