I am trying a new format of “checklist” in the form of learning goals. Your students will see these goals in class, each having 3 options to check off throughout the week and as we progress through the unit. The three options for them to check off: “I am practicing this skill”, “I understand this skill”, and “I mastered this skill”.
4th grade will be continuing to work with decimals, now adding and subtracting using visual models and the typical algorithm, as well as practicing estimating strategies.
|4th grade goals (last 2 weeks and for this unit):|
|Identify and name decimals based on place value, including expanded form
GOMath Lessons: 3.1, 3.2
|Compare and Order Decimals (on a number line, too)
GOMath Lessons: 3.3
|Round decimals (up to the nearest thousandth)
GOMath Lessons: 3.4
|Use rounding to estimate sums and differences of decimals
GOMath Lessons: 3.4, 3.7, 3.8, 3.9
|Use and understand “Quick Pictures” or Base10 Blocks to model addition and subtraction with decimals
GOMath Lessons: 3.5, 3.6
|Use the “regular” algorithm to add and subtract decimals
GOMath Lessons: 3.7, 3.8, 3.11, 3.12
|Use addition and subtraction of decimals to recognize patterns in decimals
GOMath Lessons: 3.10
5th grade will be continuing to work on Integers and rational numbers as a whole, including fraction and decimal operations.
|5th grade goals (last week and this week):|
|Use and understand Integers on a number line|
|Understand Absolute value as a distance from 0|
|Fluently add and subtract pos and neg numbers|
|Understand and use LCM and GCF in fraction operations|
|Classify, compare and order Rational Numbers, including plotting them on a number line|
|Fluently add and subtract Rational Numbers|
6th grade will be continuing to work on operations with rational numbers, and we may get into exponent rule and operations.
