We are officially half way through 2nd grade and it’s been amazing! I’m so looking forward to a SUPER second half.
Here are a few highlights from our week together.
Reading – This week, I completed working with individual students to reassess their reading levels. Next week, we will be reading about the history of the Olympics in honor of the 2018 Winter Olympics that are starting on February 9th in Pyeongchang, South Korea.
Math – The class continued working on division in Chapter 7 – Division Facts and Strategies. This week we worked on strategies when dividing by 2, 5, 10, and 3. Some strategies we have worked on include using a number line, relating facts to multiplication, subtracting multiple times, and making a picture.Remember to check out thinkcentral.com for resources and videos about our math lessons and explanations on strategies we use in class.
Writing/Grammar – Second graders worked on writing opinions with a paragraph on what makes winter so great! In grammar, students continued to explore verbs by exploring helping verbs. We love the watching the grammar videos on Khan Academy in the classroom. Check them out at home for free if your child has questions or wants to practice their skills.
Science – In science this week, I LOVED seeing all the wonderful bugs the students created with their 2nd quarter project. The students were able to do a gallery walk in the classroom and explore each others projects. Then the students gave positive comments to each other. I was so impressed with each project and the feedback the students gave their fellow classmates.
Social Studies – This week the class we continued talking about important Hispanic Americans by learning about Diego Rivera a famous Mexican muralist.
Dismissal is at 2:45 for students getting picked up. Please give yourself some time to park, walk, and meet your child on the playground by 2:45pm.
