Another AMAZING week in 2nd grade! The class is working towards a group reward next Friday of a MOVIE!

Here are a few highlights from our week together.

  • Reading – This week the students read a story about a boy named Walter who got lost in a Blizzard in 1888. Luckily for him, his brother found him and Walter lived a long life to the age of 93!! The students used this story to work on sequencing,  a series of cause and effect relationships, identifying text features, and answer text dependent questions with evidence from the story.
  • Math – In math, the students finished Chapter 5 Use Multiplication Facts. The last three lessons of this short chapters focused on problem solving multiplication word problems, and multiplying by ten or multiples of ten. The students took the assessment on this chapter on Friday, December 15th. Next week, the students will be working on a winter multiplication project which should be a lot of fun!
  • Writing/Grammar – Second graders continued working on an informational process writing piece also known as a “how-to” writing. This week the students wrote their first draft, edited and revised, and then wrote a final piece with pictures. We are planning on sharing these pieces with our friends in the other second grade class next week. The students also discussed contractions and worked on were the apostrophe goes when using them.
  • Science – In science this week the students continued Unit 4 which is All About Plants by discussing plant parts and plant life cycles. Next week the students will finish Unit 4 and take the test on Wednesday, December 20th. Please look for the chapter and review to come home on Monday, December 18th with your child.
  • Social Studies – This week the class continued discussing the United States government by learning more about the Judicial Branch which includes the Supreme Court and Federal Courts. The class talked about their roles and responsibilities, and why they are an important part of our government.
  • Art – This week we drew an arctic fox during our directed drawing time! This was a difficult one but the students did great, keep trying, and encouraged each other. In the end, the pictures all turned out AMAZING!
