Happy December, we had a SUPER week in 2nd grade.!

The weather has been so wonderful the class even got a chance to get outside for some extra recess.

Here are a few highlights from our week together.

  • Reading – This week the students started the novel, The Chocolate Touch by Patrick Skene Catling. Each student was busy working on chapter summaries, what we are calling stop signs which help them understand the book better. The class has also used the book to work on cause and effect, vocabulary, main idea, character traits, sequencing, using context clues, and writing an opinion. Next week we will finish this novel.
  • Math – In math, the class completed Chapter 4 Multiplication Facts and Strategies on Friday and this book went home with your child. There is a review in the back of the chapter if you would like your child to practice before the assessment next week. We will have having a math assessment (test) on Wednesday, December 6th.
  • Writing/Grammar – Second graders worked on pronouns this week which included the different types – singular, plural, possessive, and reflexive. The class also wrote a narrative about their Thanksgiving Break, it fun to read about all about the fun and food they had during their days off from school.
  • Science – In science this week the students completed Unit 3 – All About Animals. and took the assessment on Thursday. Next week, we will start Unit 4 which is All About Plants.
  • Social Studies – This week the class started discussing the United States government by brainstorming things the class already knows and what questions they have about the government. We will continue our study of the government the next several weeks which will include the 3 different branches and why each one is important.
  • Art – Students have really enjoyed our directed drawing time on Fridays., we all made a cartoon toast this week.

Important Reminders

  • Please email me and Mr. Murray by 1:30 for any changes in dismissal. Thanks!
  • Dismissal is at 2:45 for students getting picked up.
    • All parents picking up their child(ren) must park in the neighborhood of the school. Please give yourself some time to park, walk, and meet your child on the playground by 2:45pm.
    • Please do not meet your child at the parking lot entrance or in the parking lot.
    • Do not park, pull over, or drop off on Sacramento between Lunt & Estes. It causes serious congestion and puts students walking or crossing the street at risk. This includes the bus lane & the kiss & go lane. You will be asked to move your car.
    • Remember that we want to be good neighbors in our community. Be considerate and do not park or block driveways or alleys.

Have a great weekend, enjoy the beautiful sunshine!

Miss Cole
