Classroom Expectations & Policies:
Room 106 Miss Cohen

: Welcome! I am very excited to be your child’s social studies teacher this year. Our focus this year will include history, civics, economics and, culture. The students’ perseverance and diligence will be nurtured as paths to  understanding the world.

I expect students to accept the challenge of learning  new social studies concepts  this year in class. This will require them to learn  how to focus and tackle challenging materials. All students are expected to participate and contribute in small groups as well.

I will send out a weekly email to you with the highlights from the week and any notices of upcoming tests or project due dates. This information will also be posted on my blog on the Decatur website – http://decatur.cps.org/teachers/ms-cohen. I am available for any questions or concerns via email. Please allow 48 hours during the week to reply to your emails.

Grading: Class work will be evaluated at 50%

Assessments will account for the remaining 50%

All assignments will be posted on your child’s Google Classroom account when it is launched.Weekly assignments are due each Friday. Any work that is not finished in class must be finished at home. No late work will be accepted. Assignments will include research, reading and questions associated with the topic. Projects related to a unit will be factored in as well. As in any discipline there are many paths to the right solution so as long as we communicate and cooperate, we can find a way to meet your child’s needs.

Students will be assessed through exit slips, quizzes, and tests. Projects and discussion posts may also be used as assessments depending on when they are assigned in each unit. Students who earn a D or F on an assessment may retake it 1 week from the original date. Students who wish to retake must have a parent or guardian sign the original assessment and must notify me at least 3 days before the retake date.
