Marianne Sharping » Biography

Biography

Ms. Sharping is a highly-qualified teacher with over 20 years of experience and middle school teaching endorsements in reading, math, science, and social studies. As a product of the Chicago Public School system, Ms. Sharping is dedicated to public school education and arts integration. Ms. Sharping graduated summa cum laude from Loyola University Chicago with a degree in Elementary Education. She earned her masters from the American College of Education in Curriculum and Instruction. Her favorite way to teach is through discussion, small group activities and projects. When she is not teaching, she enjoys spending time with her family, painting, and playing competitive tennis.

8th Grade Pancake Breakfast | 8th graders kicked off one the first of many events celebrating their graduation.  Everyone ate lots of pancakes topped with whip cream, chocolate chips, fruit, and syrup. YUM!
Gallery Walk | 6th grade students completed a gallery walk of journal entries and images of Jewish life in the ghettos.  Students used large posters as a graffiti wall of words that encompassed the experiences in each source.
On Their Way! | The meals that we packed and boxed on our service learning trip to Feed My Starving Children have shipped.  The meals will help feed children and families in Guatemala.
1st & 6th Grade Buddies | Students in first and 6th grade celebrated friendship by creating bracelets for one another to wear.  Students loved making them for one another!
1st and 6th Grade Buddies | In our first activity in the new year, 1st and 6th graders worked together to think about their goals for the remainder of the school year.

December Buddies! | 1st and 6th grade buddies created their own fun, unique snowflakes together! Who is excited for snow?!?

Feed My Starving Children

We have an incredible group of Jr. High students! Together they packed 189 boxes of food that will help feed over 100 young children so that they may lead happy and HEALTHY lives for at least a year. Our students realized how much of a difference they can make by working together!

Jr. High Oktoberfest

Classes across Jr. High had a blast competing in an assortment of games that tested their wit, creativity, and ability to work as a team!
Principles of the Constitution | 8th graders created visuals to help them remember the principles of the Constitution: popular sovereignty, federalism, separation of powers, individual rights, republicanism, checks & balances, and limited government.
Founding Ideals |  Students in 8th grade began reflecting on the stories we connect to the founding of our nation.  They also looked at the stories that aren't always told but highlight the many people striving to make our founding ideals true.
Elements of a Civilization | 6th grade students analyzed several image sets to determine what elements were important to a civilization.  Students looked at image sets that represented advanced cities, advanced technology, record keeping & writing, agriculture, and complex institutions.

Classroom Agreements

Jr. High students worked on creating classroom agreements to help build community based on our Decatur Pillars: Be Present, Endure Challenges, and Take Care of Each Other.
