School Mission

The Decatur Classical School learning community helps students assume responsibility, feel self-confident and worthy. Our challenging curriculum allows students to become critical thinkers and problem solvers. Individual differences are valued, respected and used as a resource for learning. The ultimate goal is to unlock within each student the ability to think, to create, to freely express and apply ideas that will help students achieve their fullest potential, thus, build a future for all.

Admissions

Enrollment in Decatur Classical School is by application and examination. Children entering Kindergarten through sixth grade are eligible to apply.

APPLICATION PROCESS

The deadline for submitting applications for the 2010-2011 school year was January 6, 2010. Applications for the 2011-2012 school year will be available to download at the Office of Academic Enhancement's website (cpsoae.org) on October 1, 2010. Applications are also available at your local library and Alderman’s office.

TESTING FOR PROSPECTIVE STUDENTS

Testing for prospective Kindergarten students will take place early in the year. You will be notified by the Office of Academic Enhancement in writing as to the specific test date for your child.

RESULTS / ADMISSION

Results of exam and admission status are mailed in early spring. For more information about when to expect results please check www.cpsgifted.org

OPEN HOUSE / WALK-THROUGH

Tours of the school for parents of prospective students are held in the fall. There are usually 2 sessions, one in October and one in November. Specific dates/schedules for the open house are provided in September.

Prospective parents are addressed by the principal and will have an opportunity to ask questions at that time. We ask that this be an adult only event.
