This week in fourth grade students began reading about Mary and John Jones.Students have been creating essential questions in conjunction with the story. Next week we will continue reading about this fascinating couple. The students have been learning how primary sources and artifacts can support understanding of a time period in which the people lived.They will continue working with essential questions before we move on to support questions. These questions enhance critical thinking and deeper level thought processes. The students will finish presenting their version of the reader’s theater story, Escape to Freedom. The fifth graders have enjoyed learning about school in ancient Roman times and have written an original play regarding this topic. Students had an opportunity to become senators. They worked together to select and find a school issue to resolve.They will continue to focus on Rome’s many facets.
